Evolution: Recruit, Develop, Improve

AI and Recruiting – What’s Really Going On?

AI is everywhere. It’s in our inboxes, our calendars, our coffee makers (maybe not yet, but it’s coming), and it’s definitely making waves in recruiting.

We’re not mad about it. In fact, we love it.

We’ve always been fans of smart tech and have already woven AI tools into our daily work.

They’ve made us faster, more efficient, and, honestly, a little bit spoiled.

If you’ve been using AI in your business, you’ve probably seen similar benefits.

But (and there’s always a “but”), the rise of AI in recruiting is bringing some sneaky new challenges—ones we didn’t necessarily see coming.

Let’s talk about a few of them:

  1. Bots are applying to your jobs.
No, really. People are setting bots loose on job boards to apply en masse, and, in many cases, the actual human has no idea their resume has even been submitted. So when you reach out, you get crickets.
Are they interested in your role? Nope. Are they even real? Maybe not.
It’s the resume version of spam, which leads to our next challenge.
  1. The flood of fake applications.
If you’ve posted a job recently, you’ve probably seen the sudden surge. Dozens, sometimes hundreds, of resumes that hit your inbox in record time.It sounds like a great problem to have—until your team is buried under the digital pile.Yes, AI screening tools can help. But let’s be honest, they still can’t match the gut instinct and nuance of a good talent acquisition pro.
  1. The “recruitability” score.
There are now tools that claim to tell you how likely a candidate is to be recruited based on their resume. Cool, right? But here’s the catch: what happens when a potentially amazing candidate scores low?Do you skip them based on that number alone? What if that “25% likely” person is actually your next top performer? It’s a dangerous game.
  1. Resume stuffing–a sneaky way of fooling AI.
This one is almost laughable, except it’s not.We read about a resume screening experiment where a qualified CFO’s resume was compared to one submitted by someone who worked in hospitality. The twist? The hospitality resume had been artificially “stuffed” with finance-related keywords.

When processed through an AI screening system, the keyword-heavy resume ranked significantly higher, despite the candidate lacking relevant experience. Oops.

So where does that leave us?

With a gentle reminder that tech is a tool—not a replacement.

AI is brilliant at helping us work smarter, but it still needs a human touch to guide it.

No algorithm can fully replicate human judgment, intuition, or connection.

We’re curious, how has AI changed things for you? What tools are you loving? What headaches are you seeing?

Reach out and let us know—we’re all figuring this out together.

And, as always, if you need a human to help you cut through the noise and find your next great hire, we’re here. Bots need not apply!
